NBM Lead Free

With legislation ready to be enacted in the states of California (California Health & Safety Code, “AB 1953”) and Vermont State Senate Bill "S.0152", starting January 2010, the USA Plumbing Industry requires the change and replacement of traditional free machining brass (C36000) with a lead free alternative.  NBM is proud to announce the development of its "NBM Model 3 Free Machining DZR (Dezincification-Resistant) "Lead Free Brass" which has USA patents pending. Over the last 18 months we have been involved with the R&D for this machining alternative, and we now have the solution that we believe is far superior to anything else currently being offered in the world.

Our new NBM Model 3 Free Machining DZR "Lead Free" Brass proves to meet manufacturers expectations, and will be recyclable with greater ease (many outlets) than other alloys such as Eco Brass. NBM Model 3 Free Machining DZR "Lead Free" Brass has outstanding conductivity 34% IACS min, excellent machinability 87% min (when compared to C360 Brass), has mechanical properties similar to traditional free cutting brasses, and is a DZR Brass Alloy that does not contain Silicon or Bismuth - so it will be much more forgiving on tooling and minimize re-tooling of CNC equipment. This new alloy will also have very good hot forging characteristics.

NBM plans to sell this new alloy in a complete range of sizes from 1/4" diameter to 16" diameter solid bars, hexes, and squares up to 2.5". We intend to also sell hollow bars in the near future as well as ingots available for re-melting (sand and permanent mold applications).
